Description
A bronze statue of Robert Burns stands beside the beautiful Victorian glasshouse at Phipps Conservatory and Botanical Gardens in Schenley Park, Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania.
The statue of Robert Burns, a Scottish poet, created by artist John Massey Rhind in 1914, stands near the Aquatic Gardens outside Phipps Conservatory and Botanical Garden. The statue was a gift from Andrew Carnegie, a Scotsman, and fan of Burns’s poetry.
The Phipps Conservatory and Botanical Gardens, founded in 1893, was a gift from the steel and real estate magnate Henry Phipps Jr. to the city of Pittsburg. The Victorian greenhouse has fourteen rooms. It is listed on the National Register of Historic Places and a Pittsburgh Historic Landmark.
