Artist's Description

The beautiful Cathedral of St. Joseph as seen from the observation tower at Falls Park.

Built high atop a hill in Sioux Falls, this cathedral serves as the centerpiece of the Catholic faith in eastern South Dakota.

The architecture of St. Joseph Cathedral is a blend of classic Romanesque and French Renaissance. It is built in a cruciform with the transepts and nave forming a mighty cross from an aerial perspective.

The ground breaking of the Cathedral took place in 1915. It was designed by the architect Emmanuel Masqueray.
