Description
Woodrow Wilson’s 1919 Pierce-Arrow “Series 51” automobile.
The US Government leased this Pierce-Arrow to be used as the presidential limo for Woodrow Wilson while he was in office. It quickly became his favorite. When he left office, five of his Princeton classmates purchased it for him for $3,000, one-third of the price of a new car. A few cosmetic modifications were made after Wilson left office; a silver monogram WW replaced the presidential seal on the doors, and the orange accent stripes and a tiger hood ornament were added to pay tribute to Princeton University. The automobile is still fully functional and driven occasionally in the local parades.
The car can be seen at the Woodrow Wilson Presidential Library and Museum in Staunton, Virginia.
