Description
A Greater Roadrunner doing what he does best, running. Beep! Beep!
Although capable of limited flight, they spend most of their time on the ground. Roadrunners can run at speeds of up to 20 mph. Cases where roadrunners have run as fast as 26 mph have been reported. This is the fastest running speed clocked for a flying bird!
I thought it was interesting that the Roadrunners Latin name means "Californian earth-cuckoo". The Greater Roadrunner is also known as the chaparral cock, ground cuckoo, and snake killer.
