Description
The Bald Eagle eaglets have grown quite a bit since our visit a week ago. They put on quite a show for us this week.
Just like human children, they wanted to be right on top of each other even though the nest still seems plenty large for the two of them. We watched the larger one pick on the little one until he couldn’t stand it anymore. I almost expected to hear one of them scream, “Mom, he touched me!”
There was head butting to push the younger one out of the way and to force him to move along the edge of the nest. When the younger one tried to take a nap, the larger one stuck his talon up in his face and may have even poked him with it a few times.
Finally after being prodded enough, the younger one decided to practice his flying. After about 5 cycles through his wing positions, the larger eaglet laid his wing across his back mashing the little ones face into the nest to stop him. The smaller eaglet struggled and strained to get free and when he finally did, he screeched at the larger one. That’s when the fight started…
