Ferne Clyffe State Park located in southern Illinois has been known as an outstanding natural scenic spot for more than a century. George Rodger Clark passed through with his contingent on the way to Fort Kaskaskia in 1778; and one hundred years later, it was use as hunting grounds by the Cherokee on the Trail of Tears.

A portion of the park was purchased by two brothers from Cairo in 1899. They named it Ferne Clyffe because of the abundance of ferns on the grounds. They eventually sold the property to Miss Emma Rebman, a local school teacher and the school superintendent for Johnson County. I'm a travel photographer that enjoys photographing United States architecture, nature, and transportation. As the 8th photographer in 4 generations of my family, I don't remember a time when photography was not part of my life. By the time I was five years old, I was standing on a stool in the darkroom, helping my dad develop pictures. It was my job to transfer the photos from the hypo to the water bath.
