The Goodyear Blimp circles over the city as dusk settles over Morgantown, West Virginia, during the WVU vs. Pitt football game.
There are only 25 blimps remaining today, and only half of them are currently being flown. These modern dirigibles are primarily utilized for advertising and aerial photography purposes.
Among Goodyear's fleet of four airships, three are in the United States. The one observed here is Wingfoot One, based in Ohio, launched in 2014. Wingfoot One represents a new generation of Goodyear Blimps constructed on Germany's ZLT Zeppelin Luftschifftechnik's New Technology platform. It was tailored to meet Goodyear's specific requirements. This semi-rigid airship, the first of its kind for Goodyear's modern fleet, was built at Wingfoot Lake in Suffield, Ohio, by a collaboration between Zeppelin and Goodyear associates. Since its inaugural flight, Wingfoot One has provided aerial coverage for numerous prominent events such as the NBA Finals, Daytona 500, Stanley Cup Finals, PGA Championship, and College Football Playoff National Championship.
