The only time I saw a least tern chick trying to share breakfast. The littlest tern fell down while trying to snatch the fish while the adult was still in flight. The other chick grabbed the fish and turns as if to say, “Here, let me help you.”
Photographed on June 8, 2019, this image is from my second visit to the Least Tern Breeding Area on the Mississippi Gulf Coast. The chicks are now ranging in age between 1 day and two weeks old.
