Description
The Mary Schenley Memorial Fountain and the University of Pittsburgh’s Cathedral of Learning.
A 1918 landmark, the Mary Schenley Memorial Fountain is a bronze and granite public sculpture by Victor David Brenner that sits in the Schenley Plaza at the entrance to Schenley Park. The sculpture is also known as A Song to Nature.
The 42-story tall steel and limestone Cathedral of Learning in the Oakland neighborhood of Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, is the main campus centerpiece. The skyscraper, commissioned in 1921, held its first class in 1931. Pitt students have nicknamed the imposing Late Gothic Revival tower “Cathy.”
Both pieces are listed on the National Register of Historic Places.
