Description
McConnell’s Mill Covered Bridge spans the Slippery Rock Creek Gorge in this early spring image at McConnell’s Mill State Park near Portersville in Lawrence County, Pennsylvania.
McConnell’s Mill Bridge is one of only two covered bridges left in Lawrence County. It was placed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1980 and is one of only four Howe truss bridges in the state.
An exceptionally scenic location, the Slippery Rock Creek Gorge is a National Natural Landmark. When the glacial lakes drained thousands of years ago, they left a steep-walled gorge with huge boulders covering the valley floor.
