A tree swallow dips his beak into the water as he nabs an insect from the lakes surface.
This was a fun little exercise to entertain myself on a slow and mostly ugly rainy day out at Crab Orchard National Wildlife Refuge in southern Illinois. The objective was to practice my speed in locating birds in flight and focusing on these tiny little tree swallows as they buzzed back and forth over the lake eating insects. There were probably 20 swallows in all zooming around and they were FAST. About 10 minutes of giggling and wild shooting but I was really pleased at how this image turned out.
