Artist's Description

A male Pine Grosbeak perched on a clump of snow.

The largest bird in the finch family, the Pine Grosbeak is uncommon but widespread in spruce and fir forests of the North and the high mountains. They will often sit motionless allowing very close approach which makes them easy to overlook in the dense coniferous forest.
