Artist's Description

Each spring approximately 500,000 Sandhill Cranes use the Platte River Valley in central Nebraska as a staging habitat during their migration north to breeding and nesting grounds in Canada, Alaska and the Siberian Arctic.

These Cranes roost in the shallow water of the Platte River at night, arriving after sunset and leaving again shortly after sunrise.

In this image, it is early morning, we are just starting to losing the color in the sky and the late stragglers are starting to thin out as they leave their roost on the Platte and head to the cornfields to spend their day.

My husband became a medical traveler, and I decided to put my career on hold to tag along. In the process, I found my roots again. What...
