Artist's Description
Sacred Heart Roman Catholic Church, built in 1868 was once located in the town of Rodney, Mississippi. Mass was said at Sacred Heart until 1957 when only seven parishioners were remaining, the Diocese of Jackson closed it. In 1969, the Diocese deeded the property over to the Rodney Foundation.
It was placed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1972 and is widely considered the finest example of Carpenter Gothic church architecture remaining.
In 1983, to save the architecturally significant church, the Rodney Foundation donated it to the State of Mississippi who moved it to the Grand Gulf Military Park near Port Gibson, Mississippi that same year. It has since been beautifully restored and is now used as a non-denominational chapel that is now called the Confederate Memorial Chapel.

My husband became a medical traveler, and I decided to put my career on hold to tag along. In the process, I found my roots again. What...
