Description
This is one of my favorite dance moves!
A jump rake always looks so aggressive, and many times it is. This dance move can be an attacking display where the Sandhill Cranes feet strike its opponent. It is also used in mock combat among the bachelor cranes while playing or as a highly aroused dance move among mates.
I watched this pair dance for quite some time and think this might have been a pair of young males in mock battle. A female crane's response to a jump rake is usually a curtsey so she can duck under the feet. A curtsey is not a move that a male typically performs. This seemed more like a "Whoa Dude, watch where you are throwing those feet" moment.
