Description
One of Henry Ford's dreams and his reason for creating Greenfield Village was to save the architecture of Michigan. The entire village is comprised of buildings that have been relocated to the village and then restored.
The Loranger Gristmill was originally built about 1830 on Stony Creek in Monroe, Michigan. Edward Loranger built the mill and operated it until he was 91 years old. He and his family ground wheat and corn for area farmers. By the 1890s many of these local mills closed because farmers began to send their grain by railroads to larger mills.
This image of the gristmill was captured at Greenfield Village's annual Halloween celebration.
