It’s early evening out in a cornfield puddle in southern Illinois where the wood duck couples are getting ready to pair up for the night. After the girl fight, the female wood ducks turned their backs on each other and the drakes went at it with wings flying and water splashing. I think the female in the foreground of this image looks pretty pleased with herself; after all, she started it!
