Description
An architectural gem in the Beverley Historic District of Staunton, Virginia, is the Beaux-Arts styled SunTrust Bank. This beautiful historic building was known as the National Valley Bank when it was first built in 1903. Constructed of granite, brick, and carved limestone with fluted Corinthian columns flanking the central entrance of the bank, T.J. Collins, based his design on the Roman Arch of Titus.
The Bank’s Art Deco addition was added in the 1920s. It was designed by T.J. Collins’s son, Sam.
Just down the street, the Marquis building can be seen in the distance.
The bank was added to the National Register of Historic Places in 1979.
