Description
Located inside the Lincoln Birthplace memorial is a log cabin that at one time, was thought to be the actual birthplace of Abraham Lincoln. In 1933, the National Park Service began questioning the authenticity of the cabin. Finally, in 2004, a dendrochronology study was conducted by the University of Tennessee, dating the cabin to around 1848. This proved that the cabin, while very old, was 39 years too young to be Lincoln’s actual birthplace. Today, it is called the symbolic cabin.
