Artist's Description
The Duluth Depot is a historic train station located in Duluth, Minnesota. This French Norman-style building was built as a Union Station in 1892 replacing a wooden framed depot that was on the site.
The depot closed in 1969 after seventy-seven years of providing service to seven different railroads: Duluth & Iron Range, Duluth, Missabe, & Iron Range, Duluth, South Shore & Atlantic, Duluth Missabe & Northern, Great Northern, Northern Pacific, Saint Paul & Duluth. It was scheduled for demolition after it closed but was thankfully saved.
In 1973, it re-opened as the St. Louis County Heritage & Arts Center. It now houses the Duluth Art Institute, Lake Superior Railroad Museum, North Shore Scenic Railroad, St. Louis County Historical Society Museum, a Veteran’s Memorial Hall and five preforming arts organizations.
The Duluth Depot was added to the National Register of Historic Places in 1971.

I went to college for interior design. After I graduated, I had a long successful career as an art buyer and designer for a large home furnishings company. In 2006, I had a significant life change. My husband became a medical traveler, and I decided to put my career on hold to tag along. In the process, I found my roots again. What...
