Artist's Description

Located in Saint Anthony’s Garden behind the Saint Louis Cathedral in the New Orleans French Quarter stands the Sacred Heart of Jesus statue that the locals have affectionately named “Touchdown Jesus.”

During the day, it might not be obvious how he received his nickname, but after the sun goes down and the spotlight comes on, the dramatic shadow on the back of the Cathedral makes it pretty clear.

The local tour guides like to tell this story…

The night before the Super Bowl game, when the New Orleans Saints became World Champions, there was a big rally in the French Quarter. The Archbishop of the city was here, and he delivered a special prayer for the New Orleans Saints. The next day when the Saints came home with the trophy in hand, and they renamed the statue, Touchdown Jesus.

My husband became a medical traveler, and I decided to put my career on hold to tag along. In the process, I found my roots again. What...
