Description
A view down the Harpers Ferry, West Virginia mainline railroad tracks to the Harpers Ferry Tunnel.
On the right is the Winchester and Potomac Bridge, it was connected to the B&O line in 1837, so they could share the Harpers Ferry Tunnel. This was the first-ever intersection of two railroads in the United States.
B&O eventually acquired W&P Railroad in 1902. In 1963 the B&O was acquired by the Chesapeake and Ohio Railway Company and in 1980 became part of the newly formed CSX Corporation.
