Artist's Description

Inside one of the Woodford Reserve rickhouses.

A rickhouse is a bourbon aging warehouse where barrels are stored in “ricks” on their sides. Most rickhouses are several stories tall and lack heating and air conditioning. Woodford’s limestone rickhouses have a little more temperature stability than the typical metal or wooden rickhouse.

Distilling began on this site in 1812 making it one of the oldest distilleries in the state of Kentucky. Although the distillery has made bourbon under many different names, it was most recently purchased in 1993, refurbished and brought back into operation to make the premium small batch bourbon known today as Woodford Reserve.

These beautiful limestone buildings are listed on the National Register of Historic Places and designated as National Historic Landmarks.

My husband became a medical traveler, and I decided to put my career on hold to tag along. In the process, I found my roots again. What...
