Description
Thomas Woodrow Wilson, the 28th president of the United States, was born in this Greek Revival manse on December 28, 1856. His parents, Joseph and Jeanie Ruggles Wilson, were the second occupants to live in the home. They moved in, in 1855, when Dr. Wilson became the paster of Staunton’s First Presbyterian Church. The Wilson’s only lived in Staunton for a short time, moving less than a year later to Augusta, Georgia.
The manse was acquired by the Woodrow Wilson Birthplace Foundation in 1938 and was dedicated as a museum by President Franklin D. Roosevelt in 1941.
