Artist's Description

Garden of the Gods State Park is located in the Shawnee National Forest in southern Illinois. It covers more than 3,300 acres of forest throughout Saline, Pope, and Hardin County, Illinois.

This area is part of an uplifted sandstone plateau that was never covered by glaciers like the majority of Illinois. They stopped just north of here so the southern tip of the state has beautiful rolling hills unlike the flatness of the rest of the state.

Over millions of years, the wind and the rain have sculpted some of the most stunning and extraordinary rock formations known to man here. Several of the hoodoos have evocative names like, Anvil Rock, Camel Rock, Mushroom Rock, Devil’s Smoke Stack and Table Rock. These massive pillars of sandstone and scenic bluff overlooks makes Garden of the Gods is one of the most inspiring views of the Midwest.

My husband became a medical traveler, and I decided to put my career on hold to tag along. In the process, I found my roots again. What...
