Description
George Washington’s Rising Sun Chair is seen from the Central Hall through the entrance to the Assembly Room at Independence Hall in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania.
George Washington used this chair for nearly three months of the Constitutional Convention's continuous sessions.
Independence Hall’s two most ornamental spaces are the Central Hall and Tower Stair Hall. These areas have preserved their authentic eighteenth-century characteristics, most likely because their intended purposes remained unchanged throughout history. The interior's Georgian architecture emphasized the importance of proportion and symmetry.
