Artist's Description
One of my last daytime shots of the William A Irvin before she was moved from the Minnesota Slip.
She was moved so they can finish the new harbor wall and the environmental workers can complete their industrial pollution cleanup of the harbor. While she’s gone, they plan to repaint her so they will not have to move her again anytime soon. Hopefully, she’s be back home sometime before Spring 2019.
The SS William A. Irvin is a 610 foot long lake freighter, named for William A. Irvin, that sailed as a bulk freighter on the Great Lakes as part US Steel's lake fleet. She was the flagship of the company fleet from her launch in the depths of the depression in 1938 until 1975 and then was a general workhorse of the fleet until her retirement in 1978. The ship was moored in the Minnesota Slip in Duluth, Minnesota, as a museum ship.

I'm a travel photographer that enjoys photographing United States architecture, nature, and transportation. As the 8th photographer in 4 generations of my family, I don't remember a time when photography was not part of my life. By the time I was five years old, I was standing on a stool in the darkroom, helping my dad develop pictures. It was my job to transfer the photos from the hypo to the water bath. I went to college for interior design. After I graduated, I had a long successful career as an art buyer and designer for a large home furnishings company. In 2006, I had a significant life change.
