Looking across a rewatered section of the C&O Canal at Lockhouse 70.
Lockhouse 70 on the C&O Canal in the center of Oldtown, Maryland. This section of the Canal is also known as Battie Mixon Pond in honor of the Natural Resources Officer who led the community’s rewatering effort in the 1940s and 50s.
Lock 70 is in good condition. In 1906, a fire destroyed the Green Spring Road covered bridge over the Canal, and damaged the lock which needed to be rebuilt.

As the 8th photographer in 4 generations of my family, I don't remember a time when photography was not part of my life. By the time I was five years old, I was standing on a stool in the darkroom, helping my dad develop pictures. It was my job to transfer the photos from the hypo to the water bath.
