A flock of American White Pelicans socialize on a log out in the Crab Orchard Lake.
For the past three weeks, I have been chasing these American White Pelican’s around Crab Orchard National Wildlife Refuge in southern Illinois. Their favorite spot has been right in the very center of the lake as far from any shoreline access as they could get.
Then Saturday afternoon after three days of high winds, I found them in a quiet sheltered inlet close to one of the largest boat ramps on the lake. They must have been exhausted after fighting that wind for so many days because they really did not care when people came near.
