Artist's Description

The No. 1256 diesel engine headed out of the station on a morning tour at the Mid-Continent Railway Museum.

The No. 1256 was built in 1954 by BLWs Eddystone plant in Pennsylvania. It was part of an order that the U.S. Army placed with the Whitcomb Locomotive Company for 74 locomotives but when that company closed in 1951 the order had to be completed by BLW. The No. 1256 received a complete rebuild in 1986 and is currently in like new condition.

The Mid-Continent Railway Museum is located deep in the Wisconsin Dells area of Wisconsin in the small town of North Freedom.
