Artist's Description

A fisherman fishes the edge of the Pearl River near the River Bend picnic area along the Natchez Trace Parkway.

The river was originally discovered in 1698 by the French Explorer, Pierre LeMoyne Sieur d’Iberville, who sailed into the mouth of the river and found pearls. He named it “River of Pearls”. The last 75 miles of the Pearl River has been the boundary between Mississippi and Louisiana since 1812.

River Bend is located at Natchez Trace Parkway milepost #122.6 near Canton, Mississippi.
