Description
Steam Engine No. 476 is displayed at B&O Railroad’s Oakland Train Station in Oakland, Maryland.
This Baldwin 2-8-0 locomotive, built in 1920, was initially made for the Jonesboro, Lake City, Eastern Railroad. It was later leased to the Frisco before being sold to the Mississippian as their No. 76. Sloan Cornell then acquired and operated it at Gettysburg. Eventually, Owosso's Steam Railroading Institute purchased the locomotive from Jerry Jacobson with the intention of restoring it to working condition. However, they later decided that a former C&NW 4-6-0 locomotive would better fit their plans. In 2018, the locomotive was transported from Owosso, Michigan, to Oakland, Maryland, and is now on display at the depot known as the Oakland B&O Railroad Museum after undergoing cosmetic restoration. While she is no longer operational, she’s an absolute beauty!
This 1884 B&O Railroad Train Depot, is considered one of the finest examples of a Queen Anne-styled railroad station remaining in the state and one of the most distinguished historic depots in the country.
