Description
The Spirit of St. Louis, one of the best-known aircraft in the world, is on display at the Smithsonian Institution’s National Air and Space Museum in Washington, DC.
Formally known as the Ryan NYP, the Spirit of St. Louis is the monoplane flown by Charles Lindbergh on the first solo nonstop transatlantic flight from Long Island, New York to Paris, France on May 20-21, 1927. After the famous flight, Charles Lindbergh took the aircraft first on a US tour and then on a goodwill flight to Central and South America. Flags of the countries he visited are on the cowling.
