Description
The Courtyard is a historic landmark on the Lincoln Highway in Plainfield, Illinois.
It was initially constructed as a Standard Oil Station in 1928 and later operated as Overman's Certified Texaco Station, Allen Hall's Texaco, and as a Welco Gas Port. In 1984-85, the station was renovated and enlarged to be “The Courtyard” retail complex.
The property is typical of the "Domestic" type of service station. This type appeared as a picturesque cottage designed to link the structure to a family institution. The station is also typical of the "house with canopy" type. Spanish and Mission style elements are also present with the tile roof. The property was listed in the National Register of Historic Places in 1984.
